We are passionate about libraries, education, and promoting historical literacy and critical thinking. We also value being good citizens and share a commitment to safe, healthy, and thriving communities.
We are proud to foster innovation, creativity, and leadership in the educational community by sponsoring awards and grants:
Robert B. Downs Intellectual Freedom Award: In partnership with the iSchool at Illinois School of Information Sciences this award acknowledges individuals or groups who have furthered the cause of intellectual freedom, particularly as it impacts libraries and information centers and the dissemination of ideas.
Frances Henne Award: In partnership with the American Association of School Librarians, this award recognizes a school librarian with five years or less experience who demonstrates leadership qualities with students, teachers and administrators, offering a stipend to attend an AASL national conference or ALA Annual Conference for the first time.
Vicky Speck ABC-CLIO Leadership Award: In partnership with the Charleston Library Conference this award is presented to a person who has made a significant contribution to the library profession.
ABC-CLIO Research Grants: In partnership with the Society for Military History these grants support the work of advanced graduate students and those scholars who do not hold a doctoral degree but are employed full-time as historians.
Our goal of robust community engagement extends to ABC-CLIO employees and their local communities all over the world. Our employee-led Charity Committee coordinates ABC-CLIO’s philanthropic and volunteer efforts. Through matching gifts, time off for volunteering, and regular charity drives, we strive to have a meaningful impact and are always looking to do more.
