Chapters are authored by library professionals, who describe what stimulates and motivates these partnerships and how they are collaboratively developed and sustained. Violet H. Harada is professor emeritus at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. For the past 20 years, she coordinated the school library specialization for the Library and Information Science Program. She has jointly authored and edited nine books and many articles on the instructional role of school librarians as critical partners in learning with teachers. She has additionally shared her work at various state, national, and international conferences.

Sharon Coatney is a past president of the American Association of School Librarians and the Kansas Association of School Librarians and was a senior acquisitions editor for Libraries Unlimited. She was a teacher and school librarian in Kansas for many years and has coauthored or edited several professional books for school librarians as well as many professional articles. The focus of her interest has been the instructional role of school librarians and the need for practicing school librarians to provide instructional leadership in their schools.
