News-Smart Students with ABC-CLIO

Because News Literacy Matters.

More than half of American teenagers get their news from social media, where celebrities, politicians, and even foreign governments seek to add their spin to current events.

Recognizing that facts are foundational to our democracy, ABC-CLIO and the News Literacy Project are partnering with YOU to empower students to navigate this challenging news landscape with a 21st century understanding of facts, opinions, bias, fake news, and credible sources.

The News Literacy Project, a nonpartisan national education nonprofit, provides programs and resources for educators and the public to teach, learn and share the abilities needed to be smart, active consumers of news and information and equal and engaged participants in a democracy.

About the Program

News-Smart Students with ABC-CLIO supports educators in their vital work to craft the next generation of informed and engaged participants in our democracy. The program consists of three professional development webinars on issues of news literacy and how they pertain to teachers and students today. Participants will have the chance to earn professional development credit and will receive free books and instructional resources from ABC-CLIO and the News Literacy Project, as well as future discounts on ABC-CLIO products!

Participating educators will also receive complimentary access to ABC-CLIO’s American Government and Issues databases, unlocking over 20,000 primary and secondary sources and curated topic libraries designed to help students understand how information is produced and consumed. Librarians will receive complimentary access to School Library Connection, ABC-CLIO’s professional development platform for school librarians, featuring insights from today’s library leaders on how to develop students’ news literacy skills.
