ABC-CLIO is always looking for accomplished writers with something important to say to one of our many audiences.
ABC-CLIO, LLC has four book imprints (ABC-CLIO, Greenwood, Praeger, and Libraries Unlimited) that serve three major library segments: student reference, scholarly audiences, and librarian professional development. Each of these different segments includes students, teachers and professors, lay readers, librarians, and administrators. In addition, we publish for professionals in business, the nonprofit world, politics, the security industry, health, law, and more.
Below are brief descriptions of each of our imprints, complete with links to information to help you create and hone a proposal for the appropriate editor.
ABC-CLIO & Greenwood are widely recognized for high-quality, authoritative reference scholarship and innovative coverage of history, humanities, and general-interest topics across the secondary and higher education curriculum. With award-winning publishing programs in Military History, American and World History, Race and Ethnicity, Popular Culture, World Cultures and Geography, American Government, Contemporary Issues, Economics, Religion, and now Health and Wellness, the reference collections of the ABC-CLIO/Greenwood imprints continue to answer students’ and educators’ needs for factual and objective foundations in these subject areas. We provide context, perspectives, and ready reference to students, scholars, and the general public.
At any point in time, we have in process hundreds of reference publications, created with the participation of thousands of scholars and teachers worldwide who work with us as encyclopedia editors, authors, writers, and contributors. They join committed teams of editors, librarians, media researchers, designers, programmers, and production staff to publish more than 100 books annually. These teams also collaborate on a variety of research databases for secondary and higher education curricula.
We welcome interested writers from the university and education communities as contributors, planners, editors, and authors. Participating educators and scholars come from varying backgrounds, but most are characterized by outstanding credentials in their particular fields and a drive to make their special subjects more accessible and understandable.

When will Authors receive their royalty checks and/or statements?
Both royalty checks and statements will be sent based upon the specified date in the author’s contracts. There are multiple royalty cycles, and Accounting is working off these contract due dates.
Why are the indexing charges deducted from my royalties?
Unless negotiated otherwise, the author is responsible for the indexing. If the index was not completed by the author, then the expenses incurred by ABC-CLIO will be deducted from royalties.
Why does my statement indicate that I am due money but no check is included?
Per our contracts, payments will not be made for balances under $100. The balance owed will be rolled into your next royalty cycle and added to any additional royalties earned.
