A Historical Encyclopedia

by Alexander Mikaberidze, Editor

In January 1902, Ibn Saud led a daring attack on Riyadh with just 40 men, successfully capturing his ancestral home city, inspiring many other Arab tribesmen, and setting a precedent by becoming the future king of Saudi Arabia. The events of Ibn Saud's remarkable life comprise only one of the many fascinating stories throughout Islamic history.

Reviews/Endorsements

Reviews

"The content of this reference work is outstanding."Reference Reviews

"This set will be valuable where current events and Islamic studies are major parts of the curriculum."School Library Journal

"Over the course of 625 individually signed entries, the editor makes good on the claim that this is an objective, historically accurate overview of approximately 250 conflicts that have shaped and influenced world history and politics. More importantly, the entries, which range from one paragraph to several pages, represent Islamic viewpoints, a component often missing in traditional Western military history accounts."Booklist

"With this survey, Mikaberidze (history, Louisiana State Univ.; The Battle of Borodino; The A to Z of Georgia) adds considerable depth to available resources about the Muslim world's military history. . . . Mikaberidze's work will provide high school and college-level researchers with generous measures of hard-to-find information on a (sadly) enduring theme"Library Journal
