Britain and the Americas

Culture, Politics, and History

by Will Kaufman and Heidi Slettedahl Macpherson, Editors

From the transportation of Scottish slaves taken by the Vikings to Newfoundland, to the emergence in the 19th century of a Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia, Britain's transatlantic influence has spanned the length and breadth of the Americas. The story of Britain's interplay with the Americas includes accounts of both Britain's role in the African slave trade and the impact of its human rights policy in Latin America.
