Application Deadline Extended for ABC-CLIO Schools' 2004-2005 History Fellowship Program

The application deadline for the 2004-2005 ABC-CLIO Schools History Fellowship Program has been extended to April 12, 2004. This prestigious program provides opportunities for advanced study and collaboration to outstanding secondary social studies teachers.

The full-year program features:

  • Summer Institute, July 24-28, 2003 Georgetown University, Washington, DC (all expenses paid)
    Topic: Frameworks for Teaching about Conflict: Case Studies in Military History

  • Participation in ABC-CLIO Schools editorial and professional development initiatives

  • Subscription to ABC-CLIO Schools’ award-winning websites

  • A personal library of ABC-CLIO Schools’ reference books

  • Other activities to be determined
The History Fellowship Program builds on ABC-CLIO’s half-century commitment to improving the teaching, learning, and researching of history.

Eligibility

Outstanding secondary social studies teachers who have employment contracted for the 2004-2005 academic year are invited to apply. The applicant must commit to participating in the summer institute and two other editorial and/or professional development activities to be determined. Ten teachers who are leaders in their respective school communities will be selected.

All applicants will be evaluated by a special committee. No team applications will be considered. Applications become the property of ABC-CLIO.

How to Apply

1. Complete the Application Form. (please print or type)

2. Submit two letters of recommendation – one from a current school administrator and one from a current or past colleague.

3. Complete a written statement (no more than 300 words) that answers the following questions: Given the opportunity to collaborate with military history scholars and outstanding social studies teachers in an institute setting and throughout the year, what would you hope to accomplish? How does your response reflect your beliefs about teaching and learning?

Applications for the History Fellowship Program must be received by April 12, 2004. Fellows will be notified of their nomination by April 23, 2004.
