ABC-CLIO Announces Another Linking Partner: Project Muse

February 26, 2002-ABC-CLIO, the award-winning reference publisher, announced today it will link its historical abstracting and indexing databases, America: History and Life, to journals contained in the Project Muse database. The service is expected to be available in spring.

With this new agreement, users of the ABC-CLIO databases who also subscribe to Project Muse will have direct links to the full-text of journals available online through Project Muse. Users will be able to link to full-text from both short and long entries that date to when the journal went up on Project Muse. Libraries with subscriptions to Historical Abstracts or America: History and Life who also subscribe to Project Muse journals will automatically see the links later in April.

This partnership is the third of its kind for ABC-CLIO who already linked with JSTOR and the History Cooperative databases earlier this year. These partnerships are instrumental in making researching easier and information more accessible for the user.

“We are pleased to be working with Project Muse and to announce this linking partnership to the online journals of Project Muse. We are delighted that our subscribers can now use our databases as an access point to a number of online journals. Being able to provide this type of access continues our mission of meeting the needs of history researchers of all types,” said Vicky Speck, Editorial Director, Serials at ABC-CLIO.

Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life, established in 1955 and 1964 respectively, are research tools for students, scholars, and historians. They contain abstracts of journal articles and book reviews pertaining to the history of the world, with more than 16,000 new abstracts added to each database every year. Both databases were brought to the web in 1998.

Established in 1955, ABC-CLIO is a privately held corporation. It has for many years enjoyed an international reputation for high quality and innovation. The company is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, with offices in Denver, Colorado, and Oxford, England. As an educational reference publisher, ABC-CLIO has received critical acclaim for its computer-assisted abstracting and indexing services, world-renowned book program, and cutting-edge online products.
