Athens Authentication for ABC-CLIO Databases

Oxford, United Kingdom, April 2004 - ABC-CLIO is proud to announce that its award-winning databases America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts now allow user authentication through the Athens Identity Management System.

Athens is the leading provider for identity management in UK education and health sectors, with a reputation for reliability and ease of use. As the provider of the world's leading historical reference bibliography, ABC-CLIO felt it essential that its subscriptions had Athens authentication. Now, ABC-CLIO customers will be able to securely access their databases whether they are on campus, at home, or abroad, thereby having greater opportunity to study and research at the user’s convenience.

Vicky Speck, ABC-CLIO's Editorial Director, said of the new partnership "ABC-CLIO is pleased that we can offer our UK customers the option of authenticating to our databases, America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts, via Athens authentication. We strive to offer our customers many options to help them accomplish their History research. Allowing for Athens authentication is just another way that ABC-CLIO works to meet customer needs."

Stephen Butcher, Eduserv's Chief Executive, has also commented on the new partnership, "I’m delighted that ABC-CLIO’s valuable resources will now join hundreds of others in being accessible via Athens Single Sign On."
