ABC-CLIO Launches Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue Online

Santa Barbara, CA - December 3, 2003 - ABC-CLIO is pleased to announce the launch of Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue (NSTC) online. Now available as an online bibliographic database solely from ABC-CLIO, NSTC is a database that covers all materials published in the United States and British Empire between 1801 and 1919 that are found in the catalogues of several major U.S. and U.K. libraries.

The Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue is an exhaustive storehouse of over 1.2 million searchable entries, offering unlimited access to the 19th century holdings of the Bodleian Library (Oxford), the Cambridge University Library, Trinity College (Dublin), the National Library of Scotland, and the Newcastle University Library, plus holdings from the 1816 to 1919 of the Harvard University Library and the Library of Congress. ABC-CLIO acquired NSTC in January 2003 from Avero, Inc.

NSTC includes well-known and obscure works of literature, important translations, legal documents, political pamphlets, medical and scientific monographs, journals, and periodicals. Its multifunctional online environment lets subscribers create customized bibliographies, locate specific copies or genres, trace etymological uses of words and phrases, explore the lives of historic figures, and more. The search engine allows subscribers to use any of the following criteria: keyword, title, author, author epithet, subject, place and date of publication, classification, library location, or reference number to conduct searches.

According to Vicky Speck, ABC-CLIO's Serials Editorial Director, "By putting NSTC online, the added functionality will help researchers access the information more quickly and easily, and to view the information in various ways that they weren’t able to before."

This high-quality product continues ABC-CLIO’s commitment to excellence in history and supports the company’s dedication to its two core principles: to offer superior value and to provide access to resources important to the study of history.

Established in 1955, ABC-CLIO www.abc-clio.com is a privately held publisher with an international reputation for high quality and innovation.
