ABC-CLIO Social Studies Websites Selected by Denver Public Schools
Santa Barbara, CA – April 2, 2003 – ABC-CLIO Schools, a leading print and electronic publisher of grades 6-12 social studies and reference products, announced today that Denver Public School District has purchased subscriptions to ABC-CLIO’s five award winning social studies subscription Web sites, American Government, American History, State Geography, World Geography, and World History.
Students, teachers, librarians, and curriculum supervisors at Denver Public School District's 32 middle and high schools will have access to ABC-CLIO Schools content-rich websites that are standards-based, textbook linked, and student centered. There are a total of 143 schools in the district and more than 72,168 students enrolled in grades K-12.
"We are extremely selective when making decisions about purchasing interactive resources such as these subscription websites," stated Rosanne Fulton, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Denver Public Schools. "The ABC-CLIO Schools social studies products are both reference resources and curriculum-aligned research tools that will provide our students with highly enriching learning experiences."
Each of the ABC-CLIO Schools Web sites offers a vast library of electronic information, with more than 10,000 primary and secondary sources as well as guided, topical lessons and activities. Daily news updates keep students connected to fast-breaking world events, and hundreds of archived photos, audio clips, maps, graphs, and documents help teachers bring history vividly to life. Students can compare demographic data from different countries, evaluate opposing viewpoints, and trace ideas and trends through time. The instructional design fosters critical thinking skills, information literacy, and open-ended learning.
"We are pleased that Denver Public School District is joining the growing family of districts providing access to our new online social studies learning resources to their middle and high school students," said Becky Snyder, Vice President-Publisher of ABC-CLIO Schools. "This decision reflects a trend towards enriching traditional instructional materials with dynamic, technology-based resources that address the needs of students with different skill levels and learning styles."
ABC-CLIO Schools also conducts professional development workshops for interested schools and districts.
