Santa Barbara, Calif.-January 3, 2002-ABC-CLIO, the
award-winning, reference publisher, announced today it will link
its historical abstracting and indexing databases, Historical
Abstracts and America:
History and Life, to journals electronically published on the
History
Cooperative web site. The service became available at the end
of December.
With this new agreement users of the ABC-CLIO databases who
also subscribe to History Cooperative journals will have direct
links to the full-text of journals in the History Cooperative
archive. Including The American Historical Review, The
Western Historical Quarterly, Journal of American History, The
History Teacher and The William and Mary Quarterly. Users
will be able to link to full-text from both short and long
entries that date to when the journal went up on the History
Cooperative web site. Libraries with subscriptions to Historical
Abstracts or America: History and Life, who
also subscribe to journals located on the History Cooperative web
site will automatically see these links. Journals and journal
issues that are openly available on the History Cooperative web
site will also be linked to ABC-CLIO history database entries.
"We are excited to be working with the History
Cooperative and its partners and to announce that our subscribers
can now use our databases as an access point to the history
journal articles that are mounted on the History Cooperative web
site. Being able to provide this type of access continues our
mission of meeting the needs of history researchers of all types,”
said Vicky Speck, Editorial Director, Serials at ABC-CLIO.
Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life,
established in 1955 and 1964 respectively, are research tools for
students, scholars, and historians. They contain abstracts of
journal articles and book reviews pertaining to the history of
the world, with more than 16,000 new abstracts added to each
database every year. Both databases were brought to the web in
1998.
