ABC-CLIO's award-winning book program, established in 1967, publishes authoritative, attractive, and easy-to-use reference tools in the humanities and social sciences, with an emphasis on history and social studies.

Who Are Our Authors?
Our authors are experts in their fields, and almost all hold academic positions. Books may be written by a single authority, by a small group of experts, or by a team of hundreds of contributors working under the guidance of a single editor. Reference works often have an advisory board of senior scholars.

Who Is Our Audience?
Library patrons of all kinds use our books: high school and college students, professionals and scholars, and general readers.

What Do We Look for in a Book Idea?
It should be original or an improvement upon an existing work on the same topic. It should make a contribution to the field, fill a niche, and prove invaluable for users. It can be an individual title, or it should fit one of ABC-CLIO's current series.

What Subjects Interest Us?
History of all sorts - political, social, cultural; current affairs; folklore, mythology, and religion; women's studies; American Indian and other ethnic studies; history of science. Other areas, such as literature, music, and art, are of interest only as they relate to our core topic areas.
