VOYA Rates Teen-Centered Library
Service One of the "Top Ten" Books of the Year Teen-Centered Library Service: Putting Youth Participation into Practice
(Libraries Unlimited, 2009) has secured a spot on VOYA's annual "Five Foot
Bookshelf" as one of the top ten books published over the last year for
professionals who work closely with adolescents. The book, written by
Diane P. Tuccillo and recommended by Library Media Connection and School
Library Journal, combines information, inspiration, and relevant examples
to encourage school and public librarians to advocate for and incorporate
active youth involvement that will develop teen self-esteem and positively

Practical Guide to Information Literacy Assessment for Academic Librarians Wins
ACRL Award A Practical Guide to Information Literacy Assessment for Academic Librarians by Carolyn J. Radcliff, Mary Lee Jensen, Joseph A. Salem Jr.,
Kenneth J. Burhanna, and Julie A. Gedeon is the recipient of the 2009 Ilene F.
Rockman Publication of the Year Award. Given annually by the Association of
College & Research Libraries (ACRL), the award recognizes an outstanding
book related to instruction in a library environment. According to ACRL, the
work is "innovative in its coverage, original in its accessibility to
librarians at all instructional levels and experience, and timely in its
response to the nation-wide emphasis on outcomes assessment in higher

Wins ALA's
2010 Margaret E. Monroe Library Adult Services Award Nancy
Pearl, a librarian, educator, reading advocate, and author, has been selected
the winner of the 2010 Margaret E. Monroe Library Adult Services Award, an
annual honor given by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a
division of the American Library Association. The Monroe Award honors a
librarian, library and information science researcher or educator who has made
a significant contribution to library adult services. Nancy
Pearl has written a number of books for Libraries Unlimited's Genreflecting Advisory Series, including Now Read This III: A Guide to Mainstream Fiction (February 2010). For

wins 2010 Beta Phi Mu Award Ken
Haycock has been named the recipient of the American Library Association's 2010
Beta Phi Mu Award. The award, donated by the Beta Phi Mu International Library
Science Honorary Society, is presented each year to a library school faculty
member or to an individual for notable service to education in librarianship.
Haycock, the author of The Portable MLIS: Insights from the Experts (Libraries
Unlimited, 2008), is professor and director of the School
of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University.
He was previously director of the School
of Library, Archival and Information
Studies at the University
of British Columbia and
has developed led and reviewed academic, public, school and special libraries.
Dr. Haycock is immediate past president of the Association for Library and
Information Science Education and a past member of the Executive Board of the
American Library Association, among others, and has taught graduate courses in
foundations and management. He is a prolific writer and editor and an
award-winning professional and scholar. For

Publishing Group Award recipient named The
American Library Association (ALA) has named Viewing Library Metrics from
Different Perspectives: Inputs, Outputs, and Outcomes the winner of the 2010
Greenwood Publishing Group Award for the Best Book in Library Literature. The
book was written by Robert E. Dugan, Peter Hernon and Danuta A. Nitecki and
