In September 1976, 14-year-old Dublin drummer Larry Mullen posted an ad inviting musicians to audition for a new band. Among those answering were singer Paul Hewson, guitarist David Evans, and bassist Adam Clayton. A few years and a few name changes later, U2 was well on its way to reaching the pinnacle of achievement in the modern rock world.

David Kootnikoff is a Canadian writer currently based in Hong Kong and coauthor of Getting Both Feet Wet: Experiences Inside The Jet Program, which won the Japan Festival Award for contributing to understanding between cultures. He is currently working on his doctoral degree in English at the University of Alberta, Canada.
